Take a glance at the space we created for our homeschool.
Although I'm fully aware that "school" might take place in any room or chair in our house, I still wanted to create a separate space just for school where the girls could get away from other distractions and be able to focus for a bit. I wanted it to be a space they wanted to be and felt comfortable in. Fortunately we had the space to do so In the room over our garage which has served as our office and exercise room. I had to remove a couple pieces of furniture, add a couple pieces, and move some things around, but it all came together to make a functional space for our school room.
Elah's School Space
Elah is using my old computer/work desk and my old MacBook to access her teaching videos. I was overdue for a new computer and a larger desk so I got an upgrade for my space and she got the hand-me-downs which are more than sufficient for what she needs.
On the walls on her side of the room are cute retro themed English/grammar posters to be used as a reference and also just to add some fun color to the walls.
Evelyn's School Space
Evelyn has a desk that my mother-in-law gave us a couple years ago and I was excited to be able to use it in our school space. It is perfect for Evelyn. We added cushions and back pillows to both chairs for support and comfort.
I mounted a learning clock over Evelyn's desk since time is one of the units covered in her math curriculum this year.
Her side of the room has colorful math posters she can use as a reference for the math units she will cover this year. These posters came in a kit with other great math tools such as counters, a place value flip chart, flash cards, and sliding fact finders.
I knew they would need somewhere to store their textbooks and things they that would be close to their desk, but not on their desk. So I got them each a 3-teir rolling cart to keep next to their desk for extra storage space.
I also got large wall maps to reference during our geography lessons.
My desk and work space are still in this room as well. So I can get some things done while they are working but still close by and available when they need me. It has been a good setup so far.
